Description

The Pentair O-Ring (U9-229Z) is the OEM replacement cover seal for the 5-inch plastic suction trap, keeping the strainer housing watertight under normal operating conditions.

Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.

This O-ring seats between the strainer cover and the trap body, creating a pressure-tight seal that prevents air from entering the suction line. A cracked or flattened O-ring at this joint allows air ingestion, which disrupts prime and reduces pump efficiency. Replacing this seal at the first sign of weeping or air entrainment restores proper suction and protects downstream equipment.
