Description

The Pentair High Head Impeller 5 HP (C5-249) is the OEM replacement impeller for the Pentair D Series Medium/High Head Self Priming Centrifugal Pump.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: DESIGN CHANGE — VERIFY YOUR BUILD DATE
This impeller reflects a design change effective June 1997. If your D Series pump was manufactured before this date, verify this part number against your equipment’s parts diagram or the number molded on your existing impeller before ordering.

The impeller is the rotating component inside the pump volute responsible for generating flow. It draws water through the suction port and discharges it under pressure to the filtration and circulation system. On high head configurations, the impeller geometry is optimised to develop greater pressure head — suited to installations with elevated resistance such as longer pipe runs, elevated equipment, or high-resistance filter systems. A worn, cracked, or clogged impeller results in reduced flow, loss of prime, and increased motor load. Replacing with the correct OEM impeller restores rated hydraulic performance.

Pro Tip

Before ordering, locate the part number moulded into the existing impeller hub and confirm it matches C5-249. D Series pumps were produced in both standard head and high head configurations — the impellers are not interchangeable. If your pump was manufactured prior to June 1997, cross-reference the part number in your equipment’s exploded parts diagram to confirm this is the correct post-change replacement for your specific unit.
