Description

The Pentair Bulkhead 2-3/8″ 8 Buttress Thread (194801Z) is the OEM replacement 2-3/8″, 8-thread buttress bulkhead fitting for Pentair Quad D.E. and Clean & Clear Plus cartridge filters.

IMPORTANT: MANUFACTURING DATE APPLIES — CLEAN & CLEAR PLUS FILTERS
This bulkhead is compatible with Clean & Clear Plus filters manufactured after November 1998 only. Before ordering, confirm your filter’s manufacture date on the label or equipment serial tag.

This bulkhead fitting seals the plumbing port penetration in the filter tank wall. A failed or cracked bulkhead allows water to bypass the filter body at the fitting — resulting in leaks at the tank port and potential pressure loss throughout the return line. Replacing a damaged bulkhead with the correct OEM thread specification restores a watertight seal at the rated operating pressure of the filter.

Poolaroo Pro Tip

Buttress threads engage differently from standard pipe threads — they are designed to resist the axial forces exerted by pressurized water against the tank wall. When installing this bulkhead, hand-tighten until snug and follow Pentair’s torque specification in your filter’s installation manual. Overtightening a plastic buttress-thread bulkhead can crack the fitting or the tank boss. Inspect the mating O-ring seating surface on the tank for scoring or deformation before reinstalling — a damaged seating surface will leak regardless of how tight the bulkhead is torqued.
